Doug Lawyer

Doug Lawyer, CEcD, is Vice President of Economic Development for the Knoxville Chamber, where he has worked since 2001.  In his role at the Knoxville Chamber, Doug oversees the organization’s programs and staff in business attraction and business retention & expansion.
Before joining the Knoxville Chamber, Doug was the Manager of Industrial Park Development and Property Management for the Development Corporation of Knox County.
He received a bachelor’s degree in Geography and Political Science from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.  He also was awarded a master’s degree in Urban Planning from the University of Tennessee.
 

Doug received the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) from the International Economic Development Council in March 2009. Doug is a graduate of Leadership Knoxville’s Class of 2015. He currently serves as Chairman of the board for the Wesley House of Knoxville. He is the past Chair of the Knoxville Transit Authority Board, a past Board Chairman for the Tennessee Economic Partnership as well as past President of both the East Tennessee Industrial Council and  the Tennessee Economic Development Council. He is a current member of the International Economic Development Council, Industrial Asset Management Council, as well as CoreNet Global.
During his career in Knoxville, he has helped facilitate the growth of over 11,500 jobs and $1.4B in capital investment in the Knoxville community. Doug and his wife Andrea have two daughters. One is a freshman at the University of TN Knoxville and the other is a junior in high school. They have lived in Knoxville, TN for 29 years.
